Red River Breeze debuted in Spring of 2000. The group consisted of Stephanie Taylor playing recorders accompanied by a guitarist. It had been Stephanie's dream for many years to form a group that played celtic music.
Several years later, Stephanie "discovered" the Irish whistle and that instrument became her primary focus until she "discovered" the hammered dulcimer in May 2004. Stephanie's daughter, Sarah Johnson, joined the group in the fall of 2005 after being harassed repeatedly by Stephanie! (Since Stephanie's primary instrument had very definitely become the hammered dulcimer, she was desperate to add the Irish whistle and recorders back into the sound but needed someone to play them for her.) Sarah very quickly became very dedicated to the group and has become a fantastic player of traditional music. In the spring of 2006, Byron Dumas came into The Looking Glass one Friday after being told about the group and wanting to hear it. He had brought his fiddle with him and sat in with the group when invited and has been with the group ever since, adding the distinct fiddle sound that is so important to traditional music.
